Outstation Cab Fares Explained - Why & When

What you are actually paying for on a one-way drop versus a round trip.

Outstation pricing confuses people because two trips that look identical on a map can be quoted very differently. The reason is almost always what happens to the car after you get out.

One way versus round trip

On a round trip the same car brings you back, so you pay for the distance you travel. On a one-way drop the operator still has to get the car home, and that return leg is priced in even though you are not in it.

What the kilometre allowance means

Most outstation fares include a distance allowance. Travel further and the extra kilometres are charged at a published per-kilometre rate. Ask what the allowance is before you book, not after.

Driver allowance and night charges

Multi-day trips include a daily driver allowance covering the driver's food and rest. Journeys running late at night may carry a night charge. Both should be visible in the fare breakdown.

What is usually not included

  • State entry taxes and border permits on interstate routes
  • Tolls along the way
  • Parking at hotels, monuments and airports

None of these are hidden. They are simply charges the operator pays on the day and passes on. Read the inclusions before you compare two quotes, or you will compare the wrong numbers.
